Undergraduate Chemistry Courses
We offer you the chance to study for an MChem or BSc. Students will be allowed to incorporate an industrial placement into their degree programme.
Starting from a broad background covering all fundamental areas of chemistry, as you progress through the degree the course will become more focused. Many specialised areas of chemistry will become available for study in later years, including theoretical and computational chemistry, polymer chemistry, organometallic complex chemistry plus much more. There will be considerable time available for laboratory-based work including major open-ended research projects in the later years of your degree.
The study abroad option allows you to spend a year of your studies in North America. It is identical to our standard degree except that the third year will be spent in a prestigious North American university. The credit and grades achieved there counting towards your degree classification. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience living and studying in a new and exciting environment and gives you the chance to take courses that might not be available here at Lancaster. Universities involved in this exchange include, the Universities of British Columbia and western Ontario in Canada and the Universities of Florida, Colorado, Oregon, Georgia, Maine, Miami and Illinois in the USA.
The majority of this degree comes from the Chemistry 'core' but other courses are available which are specific to environmental issues. You will take courses in Atmospheric Chemistry, Hydrology, Aquatic Biogeochemistry, Organic Pollutants in the Environment and Environmental Radioactivity to name but some. Your dissertation project will also be in a relevant area of Environmental Chemistry.
